ALPENA TWP. (WWJ) -- Two people are dead after a head-on crash involving two pickup trucks in Northern Michigan.
Michigan State Police responded at around 7:45 p.m. on Monday to the scene on US-23 Hwy. between North Partridge Point Rd and South Partridge Point Rd in Alpena Township.
According the MSP Seventh District, an investigation found a 21-year-old Harrisville man was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram truck southbound on US-23 when he crossed the center line and crashed into a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche that was headed northbound.
The 19-year-old man who was a passenger in the Ram was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Avalanche driver, a 28-year-old Ossineke man, was extracted from his vehicle and later died at the hospital.
The Ram driver and his other passenger, a 21-year-old Lincoln man, were both taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, a witness told police that the Ram driver was speeding and weaving before the collision.
A photo shared by MSP shows both vehicles were smashed and destroyed.
The name of the men who died were not immediately released.
