85-year-old driver and his passenger both killed when car crashes into tree off US-12 in Lenawee County: MSP

FRANKLIN TWP. (WWJ) -- Two people are dead after a single-vehicle crash in Lenawee County, Sunday afternoon.

According to Michigan State Police, the driver off a Chevy Trax was headed east on US-12 near Wisner Highway, at around 2 p.m., when he went off the road and hit a tree.

Troopers with the MSP Monroe Post responded to the scene, along with Lenawee Community Ambulance, the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, and Sand Lake Fire Department.

The driver, an 85-year-old man from Brooklyn, Michigan, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, a 77-year-old Jackson woman, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials with the MSP First District said an investigation found that the driver may have had a medical emergency while driving, and that neither drugs or alcohol appeared to be factors in this incident.

No names were released.
