Oakland County authorities respond to 2 reports of infants found not breathing in Pontiac, 1 dies

(WWJ) Between Tuesday evening and this morning, Oakland County authorities responded to two separate reports about infants found not breathing in Pontiac.

One of the two babies has died.


According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the first incident happen at little after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies, the Waterford Regional Fire Department and Star EMS responded to a home in the 20 block of Cadillac Street on a report that a 1-month-old boy was not breathing. Paramedics attempted life saving measures at the scene, and the infant was taken to by EMS to Saint Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The child's father reported that he left the baby lying on a bed when he left the room. He said he returned around five to ten minutes later and found the baby not breathing. The mother was notified and responded to the hospital.

An autopsy has been scheduled as the investigation continues.

Several hours later, at shortly after 2 a.m., OCSO deputies and Star EMS responded to a similar 911 call to the 300 block of Seward Street.

The caller, who is the child's mother, reported that she found her 9-month-old son under her husband's leg, while he was lying on a bed. She reported that the infant was not conscious and was not breathing.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the infant was breathing and had a pulse.

The boy was taken to Saint Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital for treatment. His condition is not known at this time.

The sheriff's office said Child Protective Services was advised of the incident.
