2-year-old struck by gunfire while sitting in vehicle in Southwest Detroit

Cops say two victims were shot in Detroit, including a young child, after they were caught in the crosshairs of a shootout Tuesday morning.

DETROIT (WWJ) - Cops say two victims were shot in Detroit, including a young child, after they were caught in the crosshairs of gunfire Tuesday morning.

As reported by WXYZ, the shots were fired in the area on Lawndale near Witt in Southwest Detroit. Police said a 2-year-old child was sitting in a car with three adults when a silver Jeep pulled up alongside them and opened fire.

The child was struck under the arm.

Police said a 55-year-old man working on his car nearby was also hit in the back when he heard the gunshots and came out to investigate.

Authorities said both victims are in temporary serious condition.

At this time, there is no word on suspects and no other details were released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
