CANTON (WWJ) -- A 21-year-old suspected of shooting and killing another person during a road rage incident in Canton has been arraigned on murder charges.

The Canton Police Department says the suspect, Jacor Burch, appeared in court on Monday to face first-degree murder and felony firearm charges. He is currently held in the Wayne County Jail without a bond.

Maria Phillips, 33, who was arrested on June 16, is facing "accessory after the fact" charges. She is being held in the Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

Investigators say Burch shot and killed 37-year-old Belleville resident, Michael Paul, while on Haggerty Road, between Palmer and Michigan Avenue, at approximately 5:18 p.m. on June 10.

During the incident, the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Six days after the shooting, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Burch fled the scene but was later arrested in Illinois earlier this month.

Burch’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 5, in the 35th District Court.
