21-year-old Plymouth man killed in crash involving semi and Camaro on I-275 in Livonia

LIVONIA (WWJ) -- A Plymouth man is dead after an early morning freeway crash in Livonia.

Livonia Police closed southbound I-275 at 8 Mile Rd. at around 4 a.m. Thursday following the crash involving a semi truck and a Chevy Camaro.

According to investigators, a 21-year-old man was driving the freeway when he tried to pass the semi in rainy conditions.

The driver lost control and spun out, police said, his car getting hit and pinned under the truck.

First responders extricated the man from his car, and he was pronounced dead on the scene. His name was not released.

Results of an autopsy are pending, but police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor on the part of the truck driver.

The southbound freeway was shut down for hours for the on-scene investigation, but reopened to traffic shortly before 9 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
