TROY (WWJ) -- Prosecutors charged a young Troy man with Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment for a weekend crash that left another man critically injured.
Troy Police said the crash happened on Saturday, July 18, at approximately 11:15 p.m., when 31-year-old Mohamed Ali Ahmad disregarded a red light while speeding in a Mustang on Big Beaver. He collided with a 27-year-old Bloomfield Hills man in a Ford Fusion at the Livernois intersection.
Ahmad was traveling east, while the Bloomfield Hills man was heading south, according to police.
First responders rushed the Bloomfield Hills man to the hospital, where he's in critical condition.
Troy Police Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene to investigate the crash. Officers closed down the intersection for approximately three hours.
Ahmad appeared in court in Troy on Tuesday, July 21, where a judge arraigned him on one count of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of Body Function. Bond was set at $50,000.
