23-year-old Waterford Township man fatally shot at large block party in Pontiac

PONTIAC (WWJ) A shooting at a large Pontiac block party left one man dead and another in custody.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened during the night of Saturday, July 25, at a home on Mariva, in the area of Woodward and Auburn Avenue (Orchard Lake).




According to sheriff's officials, deputies received multiple 911 calls reporting a man had been shot during a block party of about 100 people.

Deputies arrived and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. First responders began life-saving treatment to no avail. They rushed him to McLaren Oakland Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He's identified as a 23-year-old Waterford Township man.

Investigators secured the scene. During that time, a 23-year-old Pontiac man with a Concealed Pistol License informed deputies he had committed the shooting.

According to authorities, deputies observed a handgun with an extended magazine protruding from the man's waistband. They took him in to custody "without incident" and lodged him at Oakland County Jail.

The Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy, the sheriff's office said.

The Waterford Regional Fire Department and Star EMS also assisted with the response.
