A 25-year-old man accused of attacking his father with a gun and knife and shooting his mother to death faces his first hearing in court Monday morning.
Kalin Karvelis is being arraigned in Romulus, where a motive is expected to be revealed for the deadly attack.
Karvelis is accused of a shooting last Friday at the home of Victor and Julie Lee Karvelis in New Boston, down I-275 near Detroit Metro Airport. Police say the 53-year-old woman of the house was shot in the chest and died from her injuries while her husband is recovering from a gunshot to the neck.
An off-duty police officer reportedly stumbled onto the scene when he drove by and said he witnessed Karvelis waving a knife near the man who turned out to be his father.
The younger Karvelis is facing charges of first degree murder, felony firearm, assault with intent to murder.
