25-year-old bicyclist killed in crash with rental truck in Westland, police investigating

WESTLAND (WWJ) -- A 25-year-old Westland man has died after his bike was hit by a rental truck in Westland, Tuesday morning.

The crash happened as the bicyclist was attempting to head south on Warren, at around 6 a.m., crossing Wayne Road.

According to police, the rented Penske truck was making a left-hand turn from Wayne onto eastbound Warren when it hit the bicyclist in the intersection.

"Despite an attempt by authorities to save the man at the scene, he did in fact pass away," WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reported.

Police said the driver of the truck did stop, and has been talking with investigators.

It's not clear at this point who was at fault for the crash.

The Westland Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team closed the intersection while they conducted their investigation, but all lanes have since reopened.

The name of the man who died was not immediately released.
