25-year-old Novi man killed in shooting on I-96

(WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating what they are calling a homicide on the freeway in Detroit.

The victim, identified as a 25-year-old Novi man, was found dead in his car on Labor Day along eastbound I-96 at M-39, the Southfield Freeway.

At around 3 p.m., MSP troopers alerted by Detroit Police found the vehicle with multiple bullet holes.

The driver was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

What led to the shooting remains unclear, but MSP said investigators do believe that the victim was targeted.

As of 7 p.m. Monday, eastbound I-96 remained closed at the Southfield Freeway with the ramps to the Southfield Freeway also closed, with MSP detectives still on the scene (LISTEN TO WWJ for updates).

The victim's name was not released. No other injuries were reported.
