DETROIT (WWJ) -- Three people were arrested at the scene of a drug raid and shooting Wednesday morning, at an apartment complex in northwest Detroit.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell reported there was a massive police response to the two-story brick building on Greenfield at Verne, south of W. McNichols.
"They brought out all of the SWAT equipment," Campbell said. "They had the tanks, or the trucks, the ramming trucks, the SWAT crew carriers so they could bring out all of the personnel with a lot of guns."
According to MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, members of the Emergency Support Team (EST) were helping the County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET) serve a warrant to search the building, as part of a narcotics investigation, when someone inside the apartments was seen with a gun.
Shaw said shots were fired as EST approached the door, but MSP is still investigating to determine who fired them.
At that point, a barricaded gunman situation was declared, and apartment residents were evacuated.
Kenny, who lives in the building, said it was a frightening situation. "It wasn't good," he told Campbell. "I wouldn't wish this on nobody... Very scary, very scary. I was up under the bed."
No one was injured.
Shaw said some announcements were made, and eventually, three suspects came out of the building and were taken into custody.
"And then we used drones, K9s and our Bomb Squad robots to clear the building, you know, make sure that everything was safe," Shaw said. "With all the technology today we don't have to send people in there anymore."
The names of the people arrested were not immediately released as they await expected charges.
