MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- Anyone missing a snake?

A local resident was walking the trails at the Red Oaks Nature Center in Madison Heights on Sunday when they spotted a three-foot long ball python.

The person later took to the Facebook page “For the Love of Louie” — which helps metro Detroiters locate lost pets — to write that the snake was “very sweet” and “looked well-fed.”

However, the person also added that it was “definitely a non-Michigan native snake.”

It was speculated that the python either escaped, or was “released” by its owner into the preserve.

Animal control was closed at the time of the sighting, and the local police reportedly declined to come out, so the hope is that an enthusiast or the snake’s owner might come pick it up from the Oakland County park.

Any information on the snake can be reported to the "Love of Louie" Facebook page.
