(WWJ) Three people were involved in a shooting on a pier at a popular Lake Michigan beach in Southwest Michigan, and at least one person is dead.
South Haven Police Chief Natalie Thompson confirmed the incident, but said there is no active threat to the public at this time.
According to witnesses, at around 2:20 p.m. Friday. someone walked onto the South Pier in South Haven with a gun... sending some people running off the pier, and others hiding.
News Channel 3 reports video from a beach camera appeared to show three people near the edge of the pier. Two people fell to the ground after being confronted by the third person. A short time later, that person also dropped.
The Michigan State Police, which is assisting South Haven PD with the MSP Dive Team, told WOOD-TV that the suspect is dead.
The condition of the other people involved is unknown, and other details are still sketchy at this time.
It remained an active scene, late in the afternoon.
Reports said both piers were shut down in South Haven. The South Beach parking lot was closed, but North Beach was still open.
