HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) -- Three people were taken to a hospital after a boat explosion on the water in Harrison Township over the weekend.
At around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division said it responded to a distress call for a vessel that had exploded in Belvidere Bay.
According to investigators, two adults and two juveniles were out on a boat, anchored in the bay. As they tried to leave, the boat's engine compartment flamed up and exploded, throwing all four people into the water.
A Good Samaritan vessel helped rescue the group; got all four people out of the water and back to the shore, the sheriff's office said.
Three of the people were taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment of some injuries.
MSCO Marine Division Deputies put out the fire, the boat was towed, and a MCSO Fire Investigator determined that "there was nothing suspicious and foul play is not suspected," the MCSO said.
The three injured people were all listed in stable condition on Monday.
