(WWJ) - Stellantis is recalling thousands of hybrid SUVs due to a potential fire risk.
The recall involves an estimated 32,125 Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs. The model years are 2021 through 2024.
Stellantis said they were made aware of the fire risk when they did a routine review of customer data. A later investigation found that there were a total of eight vehicle fires. Six were connected to chargers and all eight were parked and turned off.
The company said they were unaware of any injuries or accidents caused by the fires.
While the vehicles can be driven, Stellantis is advising owners not to charge them at this time. The vehicles should also not be parked near any homes or buildings or other vehicles.
Stellantis said the remedy will involve a “software flash”. If the vehicle shows a specific error code, the battery pack will be replaced. Customers that are affected will be contacted so they can schedule to bring the vehicle in to be tested.
Stellantis estimates that about 1% of the affected vehicles may have the defect.
An estimated 3,856 vehicles in Canada and 9,249 outside of North America, Stellantis said.
