FREELAND, Mich. (WWJ) -- Two tornadoes touched down in Michigan, Tuesday afternoon, officials have confirmed.
One of them was an EF-1 in Freeland, between Saginaw and Midland. It's in the middle of Tittabawassee Township, where Phillip Shaver is fire chief.
He told WWJ's Beth Fisher there was some damage, but no injuries reported.
"We didn't have like, any heavy damage where homes were totally destroyed, " Shaver said. "But we had a couple of homes that had what I'd call moderate damage; like the roofs were ripped off and some windows blown out."
"We had one out shed — I think it was a 24 by 24 out shed — that was blown over. A smaller, like a 10 by 12 shed tipped over."
Shaver said a couple of campers were also knocked over, and there was damage to siding and fencing.
He said, in total, around 35 homes were affected, but they will continue to assess the damage on Wednesday.
The second, weaker, tornado briefly touched down in a farm field in Montrose, northwest of Flint. There are no reports of any major damage from that tornado.
This marks the 17th and 18th tornadoes of the year.
