CASS COUNTY (WWJ) - A young Illinois boy visiting his family's lake house in Southwest Michigan drowned on Friday afternoon at Indian Lake.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office confirmed the fatality on Saturday morning, stating that deputies responded to reports of a drowning around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 on Indian Lake in Silver Creek Township, located six miles west of Dowagiac and a 30 minute drive southeast from Benton Harbor.
County Sheriff Richard Behnke said in an update that 3-year-old Elijah Rosegren of Hinsdale, Ill. was pulled from the water by a relative, who then attempted CPR.
When first responders -- which included SMCAS Ambulance, Indian Lake Fire Department, Pokagon Band Tribal Police and Michigan State Police -- arrived at the scene, they took over CPR attempts, but were unable to revive the 3-year-old.
He was rushed to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac where medical staff pronounced him deceased.
Behnke stated that deputies do not suspect that foul play was involved, but the incident remains under investigation.
No other details were released.
