DETROIT (WWJ) -- Four men have been charged in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy that occurred last fall.
Malikk Williams, Gregory Freeman, Christian Bernard White and Kevin Bernard White -- all ranging in age from 19 to 27 -- are each facing murder and gun charges in the death of Devante Jones.

Jones, 23, was off-duty when he was shot and killed in the early hours of September 20 as he was dropping off a friend at the Diggs Projects in the area of East Forest and the Chrysler Service Drive.
Found wounded, Jones was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Jones joined the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department in October 2019 and worked in Jail Division I.

The motive for the killing remains unknown, and authorities have not said if Jones’s job as a corrections officer played a part in his murder.
The men accused in the fatal shooting were arrested in October and arraigned in December. They are due back in court on January 13.
