(WWJ) Gunfire on Detroit's northwest side leaves two people dead and two others, including a child, hospitalized.

Commander Rebecca McKay from the Major Crimes unit says the shooting took place on Patton Street near Midland just before 6 p.m. Friday evening.

"Unfortunately two individuals are deceased, we have one that is currently in critical condition, and we have a child that was grazed by a bullet in stable condition," McKay said.  The child is 11 years old and is expected to recover.

"At this point in time we don't have any information about what initiated this horrible incident," McKay added. "We do know it was two groups of people, whether they're related, whether they're not we don't know at this time."  McKay said police believe this was an isolated incident and said the public doesn't have anything to fear.

One person of interest is in custody.

The Detroit Police Department's homicide unit is investigating and was talking with witnesses and residents in the neighborhood.
