4 teenagers flee scene after their car was shot and crashed into a tree

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - An investigation is underway after four teenagers are shot at inside a vehicle before crashing into a tree and taking off on foot.

Ann Arbor Police (AAPD) were alerted of shots fired in the 2300 block of Arrowwood Trail Thursday around 4:45 p.m. Officers found a black sedan with multiple gunshots that had run into a tree.

As captured on surveillance video, the preliminary investigation revealed several people inside a vehicle who had pulled into a parking lot along Arrowwood Trail and waited for the black sedan to pull out. As the car left, three suspects started shooting at it, firing around 25 times and hitting the victims' vehicle multiple times.

According to a Press Release, after the car was hit by gunfire, the vehicle hit the tree. The four occupants, ranging from 15-to-16-years-old, got out of the sedan and took off on foot.

None of those teenagers were hit by gunfire. It is unknown if they received any other injuries.

The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

Stray bullets also hit multiple homes and another vehicle in the area. No one was injured. Police expressed in the release that it was very fortunate this incident didn't result in an innocent person being injured or killed.

Authorities do not believe the shooting to be random. However, a motive is currently under investigation.
