PORTAGE (WWJ) – A young West Michigan boy is hospitalized after being attacked by his family’s dogs over the weekend.
Police were called to home in Portage — just south of Kalamazoo — late Sunday afternoon, according to a report from WOOD TV in Grand Rapids.
When authorities got to the home, they found a 4-year-old who was “severely bleeding” on a reclining chair, according to the report. Officials said the boy had “multiple puncture wounds throughout his body” and was “semi-conscious” when first responders arrived.
The boy was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition on Monday, according to WOOD TV.
Authorities told the outlet there were three adult pit bull mixes and two puppies in the home, where the dogs’ owner lives with his girlfriend and her son, the child who was mauled, according to the report.
Investigators say the owner was home alone with the child when the attack happened, according to WOOD TV. Animal control officials removed the adult dogs, while the puppies remained with the owner, according to the report.
Investigators were back at the home on Monday, still trying to determine what happened leading up to the attack.
