DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in police custody after an alleged hit-and-run crash killed a young child on Detroit's east side Wednesday night.
Detroit police tell WWJ the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on 7 Mile Road near Hoover Street, in the area of Osborn High School.
Many details about the crash remain unclear, but police say a 4-year-old child was killed. No other details about the child or the circumstances surrounding the incident have been released.
Detroit police had tweeted that they were looking for the suspect, who had been driving a white pickup truck with temporary tags.

Less than an hour later, DPD provided an update on Twitter, saying the suspect was in custody, having reportedly turned himself in to police at the department's 9th Precinct.

As of Thursday morning, no further information has been released on the victim or the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
