DETROIT (WWJ) Detroit Police removed dozens of dogs from horrible conditions at a home on the city's east side, police said.

Authorities told WWJ officers found at least 40 small dogs during a welfare check on an elderly woman at a home on Liberal, near Gratiot and Seven Mile, on Friday, February 13, around 1 p.m.

Officers rushed the homeowner, who had fallen, to the hospital.

They discovered two of the dogs dead, and removed the rest from the home for evaluation and care.
