43-year-old Redford man arrested in case of mother and 12-year-old son murdered in their Hazel Park home

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) -- A suspect is now in custody in the case of a mother and child, found murdered in Hazel Park on Labor Day.

Police said 41-year-old Linda Hill was on the phone with her sister when she was attacked inside her home on Berdeno Ave., near 9 Mile Rd., Monday afternoon.

Both Hill and her son, 12-year-old Kardi Jackson, were killed.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner told WWJ Newsradio 950 that both victims' throats has been slashed, and that the cause of death was ruled to be homicide.

Tuesday evening, Hazel Park Police detectives, with help from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at a Pontiac home and arrested a 43-year-old Redford man, identified as a suspect in the case.

Police said detectives also found evidence connected to the Hazel Park murders, but they did not say what that evidence was.

As of Wednesday morning, the suspect remained held at the Hazel Pak Police Department.

The suspect's name was not immediately released, with expected charges pending.

"The police department wants to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Linda and Kardi," the Hazel Park PD said, in a statement.

The community will gather Wednesday honor the victims at a candlelight vigil and balloon release at 9 Mile Rd. and Berdeno at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The Hazel Park school district continues to have counselors available at the Middle School for students and staff.
