WARREN (WWJ) -- A joint law enforcement operation aimed at curbing violent crime and drug trafficking in Warren netted concluded with arrests, the execution of four search warrants, and the seizure of cash, illegal guns, and narcotics.
The five-day crackdown police are calling "Operation Summer Heat," ran from July 14 to July 18, 2026.
It brought together officers from the Warren Police Department's Special Victims Division, K9 Unit, and Patrol Division, along with several FBI task force teams, including the Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force.
During the sweep, law enforcement personnel recovered four illegal firearms, seized around $17,000 in cash, and confiscated a significant quantity of illicit drugs. The narcotics seized included two pounds of marijuana, 31 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 23 grams of cocaine, and five grams of methamphetamine, as well as additional quantities of fentanyl and ecstasy.
Warren Police Commissioner Eric Hawkins said this operation highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation in getting illicit weapons and drugs off local streets.
"The success of Operation Summer Heat is a clear reflection of our unwavering commitment to public safety. We are incredibly grateful for the partnership and vital resources provided by the FBI, whose collaboration was instrumental in the execution of this mission," Hawkins said, in a statement.
"By removing illegal firearms and narcotics from our community, we are actively deterring violence and protecting our residents. We will continue to be proactive in our enforcement efforts to ensure that our city remains safe."
Jennifer Runyan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, echoed the sentiment, noting that Operation Summer Heat demonstrates the impact achieved when the FBI and local departments collaborate.
She added that the FBI remains committed to supporting its local partners to enhance public safety across Macomb County and throughout Michigan.
