
NEWTOWN TWP (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating a snowmobile crash in Calhoun County that left a man dead and a woman injured Thursday night.
The Detroit News reports that the man was driving along B Drive South in Newtown Township just before 11:30 p.m.
As he navigated through a field, he struck a rock and lost control of the snowmobile.
The 49-year-old Battle Creek man was killed in the crash. His passenger -- a 41-year-old woman, also from Battle Creek -- sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for medical treatment.
MSP is currently working to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the tragic accident.
Newtown Twp Fire Department, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police and LifeCare EMS assisted MSP at the crash site.
