NOVI (WWJ) - A patch of ice is being blamed for the death of a 67-year-old Novi resident after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another car Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The fatal crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. after Novi police were dispatched to the scene on southbound Novi Road, just south of Grand River.
Novi police said a preliminary investigation revealed a 67-year-old male resident was traveling northbound on Novi Road when he apparently hit a slick spot in the road.
He lost control and crossed over into the southbound lane, police added, hitting another vehicle driven by an 80-year-old woman from Commerce.
The man was taken to Providence Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities confirmed.
The 80-year-old woman sustained no serious injuries and is expected to be OK.
Novi police said they believed the crash to be weather-related — no alcohol, drugs or high speeds were factors in the incident.
Novi Road was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation. The roadway reopened to traffic around 9 a.m.
