REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - A 6-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after he was hit by a car and dragged down the street in Redford Twp. Wednesday night.
FOX 2 reported the incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. in the area of Brady and Vassar in Redford. The suspects inside the vehicle -- which is believed to be stolen -- fled on foot after the crash, police said.
A K-9 unit was called in to track the suspects, but they were not found.
Family members told FOX 2 that the boy, identified as 6-year-old Chase Young, had come in to get a drink before he told his grandmother that he was headed to a friend's house on his bicycle.
Not three minutes later, he was struck by the vehicle, they said.
"[I was told] my grandson got hit and he laid there unresponsive and blood coming from his head, his knee open. He's not saying nothing," the boy's grandmother said.
According to neighbors at the scene, the 6-year-old looked to be in very bad shape and the EMS that transported him to the hospital was escorted by police.
Family members later told FOX 2 that the boy's injuries were so severe, he was airlifted to another hospital for treatment.
A description of the suspects was not released, but the child's grandmother said police told her that one was wearing a white tank top and black shorts and the other a red shirt and black shorts.
"We losing babies every day," said to the Metro-Detroit News. "My grandson might not live."
