LAPEER COUNTY (WWJ) – A 73-year-old man has died after a rollover crash in Lapeer County Tuesday morning.
It happened around 9:30 a.m. in Mayfield Township at the intersection of Daley and Roods Lake Roads.
Authorities say the Brown City man was driving a Chevy Malibu south on Roods Lake and his car was t-boned by a Nissan Sentra headed west on Daley when he entered the intersection.
Both cars left the road and the Malibu rolled and came to a rest on its roof.
Lapeer City Fire and Rescue extricated the man from the Chevy. He was taken to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries about two hours later.
A 55-year-old Attica woman driving the Nissan was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials with the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office say there is a stop sign on Roods Lake at the intersection, while traffic on Daley does not. It was not clear whether the Chevy driver stopped at the sign.
Authorities do not believe alcohol or excessive speed played a role in the crash, which left the intersection closed for about two hours.
Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call Detective Sgt. Jason Parks at jparks@lapeercounty.org or 810-656-1015.
Lapeer County Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by Lapeer City Fire and Rescue, Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service, Michigan State Police (Lapeer Post), and Lapeer County Reconstruction Team.
