74-year-old man on motor scooter is critically injured in Canton crash

CANTON TWP. (WWJ) -- A 74-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition after a crash, Sunday afternoon in Canton.

Canton Police said the man was riding a motorized scooter south on Sheldon near Gordon when a small gray SUV tried to pass him, at around 2:40 p.m.

When the SUV attempted to pass, the man lost control of his scooter and fell off, hitting his head on the ground, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said driver of the the SUV did not stop at the scene.

An investigation by the Canton Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have any information about a small, gray SUV that might have been in the area at the time of this incident, is asked to call Canton Public Safety at 734-394-5400.
