PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) — A 76-year-old man has died after being hit by a teen driver in Pittsfield Township late Saturday night.

Pittsfield Township police officials say the crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Washtenaw and Foster Avenues, just southeast of Ann Arbor.

Ernest Lareau of Pittsfield Township was crossing Washtenaw near Foster when he was hit by a westbound Ford Escape, according to police.

Authorities say an 18-year-old Ypsilanti man was driving the SUV that hit Lareau, who was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A section of Washtenaw was closed during the investigation.

Officials did not say whether the teen driver was taken into custody.
