(WWJ) The numbers are in after Tuesday night's speeding crackdown on Metro Detroit-area freeways.
Michigan State Police say 99 traffic stops were made during the special enforcement period, the evening of July 22, on I-94 and I-75.
MSP said 59 of those stops resulted in citations, while two people were taken into custody.
Even though though this was announced as primarily a speed enforcement night, 21 of the tickets were handed out for violating Michigan's "Move over Law, and only 12 for speeding.
MSP said only one driver got a ticket for violating Michigan's Hand's Free districted driving law and six were cited for tinted windows.
A total 59 drivers received warnings. MSP did not release any details about the two arrests.
Many Metro Detroiters WWJ Newsradio 950's Luke Sloan spoke to about this said they do think speed enforcement nights are a good idea, because there's a lot of bad driving out there these days.
Jommel Williams of Detroit said aggressive driving is also a concern.
"A lot of anger; it seems like people are so in a rush." Williams said. "So, they arrive directly behind you and you're going to have a lot of people riding behind you, a lot of people getting angry with you."
State Police say these extra speed enforcement nights will continue through the end of the month.
“While education is an important part of reducing crashes and risky driving behaviors,” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “We all know that enforcement is more likely to change the driving behaviors of some drivers. Please drive the speed limit, keep a good following distance, move over when you see an emergency vehicle and be kind.”
