Lions playoff win means a lot to fans… including free Shield's Pizza

DETROIT (WWJ) — Despite freezing temperatures and sub-zero wind chills, Lions fever is sweeping the Metro Detroit region.

As the team hosted former quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Rams Sunday night in a game literal decades in the making a lot was on the line... including free pizza.

Shield's Restaurant and Pizzeria announced last week their locations in Detroit, Troy and Southfield would be giving away free pies if the Lions beat the Rams.

Mission accomplished. The Lions held on for a thrilling 24-23 win for the franchise's first playoff win since the 1991-92 season. Bring on the free pizza.

“The fans have been waiting for a long time for a winning team and this could be the year the Lions go to the Super Bowl,” Paul Andoni of Shield’s said, per a press release. “We’re glad to show our loyalty by giving away free pizza to celebrate their season and a home playoff victory. This could be the start of a new Detroit dynasty!”

The giveaway will happen Tuesday, Jan. 16 at three Shield's locations from 5-8 p.m.

One or two patrons together will receive a small, one-topping pizza, while groups of three or more will receive a large with one topping.

Shield's says extra toppings will be available at regular price. Beverages are not included, the offer is good for dine-in only, and does not apply to reservations previously made. “Tipping should be based on the original cost of the pizza,” a press release says.

Participating Shield’s locations include Troy located at 1476 W. Maple, Southfield located at 25101 Telegraph, and Detroit located at 5057 Woodward Avenue.

Back in 2021 Shield's gave out free pizza following the Lions' first win of the season in Week 13 after making a promise when the team started 0-5.
