MONROE (WWJ) – A Downriver man is in custody after allegedly making threats toward last weekend’s "No Kings" protest in downtown Monroe.

The Monroe Public Safety department said protest organizers alerted police about threatening statements made against them and protestors on Saturday (Oct. 18).

Officers said they immediately identified several concerning messages posted by one person who directed the threats against rally participants.

The suspect was identified as a 58-year-old man from Trenton.

Monroe Police detectives, with assistance from the Trenton Police Department, made contact with the man. Investigators say he was cooperative and allegedly admitted to making the threats.

According to police, the man said he has anger issues, which led him to making the statements. He was taken into custody and taken to the Monroe County Jail.

The public safety department said they are seeking charges of harassment, intimidation and stalking. The case has been submitted to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The Monroe Public Safety Department reminds the public that threats of violence against anyone in the community are against the law and will be thoroughly investigated.
