DETROIT (WWJ) - A new ten-story, Marriott-branded, hotel opening in downtown Detroit will be located within walking distance of major places and spaces in the city.
The 154-room AC Detroit is now under construction in Detroit's Brush Park neighborhood. Located on Woodward Avenue and Eliot Street, the first AC Hotel in southeast Michigan will be connected to the historic Bonstelle Playhouse, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations.
When it opens in 2024, officials said the $49 million project will be situated at the gateway to Downtown. It will be within walking distance of Little Caesars Arena, Orchestra Hall, Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business and the Detroit Medical Center.
The hotel and The Bonstelle will be connected through a 4,000-square-foot glass-enclosed conservatory. The location will also feature the hotel group's signature AC Lounge, modern public spaces and private event space.
The Bonstelle will be restored to its original 1903 Albert Kahn-designed exterior and 1925 interior redesign by noted theater architect C. Howard Crane.
The complex will also anchor a series of developments planned for surrounding properties at Mack and Woodward.
According to the website, AC Hotels' aim is "Form and Function."
"Our approach to every space is optimal comfort and utility through elegant design," the site states. "Modern decor and open layouts offer functional beauty without distraction."
In a statement, representatives said Detroit-based real estate development firm Roxbury Group is developing the AC Detroit at the Bonstelle project in partnership with Peachtree Group of Atlanta.
Marriott's webpage reads, "At AC Hotels, every moment has been designed, refined, crafted, and considered to create a comfortable, elevated, and unobtrusive experience that lets guests maximize their travels."
The hotel will be the second AC Hotel in Michigan. The first is located in Grand Rapids.
AC Hotels has over 150 global locations.
