Agreement to locate 'Thinking Robot Studios' in Buffalo

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Saying, "It's safe to say the robots are coming and Buffalo is talking proud again", one of the leaders of a new high-tech company that will locate along Buffalo's waterfront exhuberantly introduced the company to the region along with elected leaders. 

A land sale agreement approved Tuesday by the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation(BUDC) will solidify the deal to locate a Canadian-based medical manufacturer in the shadows of downtown Buffalo and the old Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the Lakeside Common Park.  The 22 acre development site, the last available space at the park, comes at a cost just shy of $1 million. 

Thinking Robot Studios focuses its business on the creation and commercialization of technology for the rapid design and manufacturing of patient-specific orthopedic implants and systems for bone and joint reconstruction that lead to precision surgery. The company’s mission is to provide individuals who require orthopedic surgery solutions that are specifically tailored for them.

“This announcement allows our company to advance toward the creation of a dynamic, 75,000 square feet advanced manufacturing and imaging facility right here in Western New York,” said Gregg Gellman, Chief Executive Officer and Partner at Thinking Robot.  "Our proprietary technology leads to precision surgery with diminished risk and decreased rehabilitation time, while maintaining superior quality and increasing positive clinical outcomes for patients who require orthopedic surgery,” stated Gellman.

While the company is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gellman emphatically stated, "As a native Buffalonian, I am proud and honored to help lead this project and put it right here in our back yard".

Thinking Robot Studios will ramp-up employment ranks ove rthe course of seven years and expects to hire in the neighborhood of 700 people.
