SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WWJ) - An ailing crewmember aboard a Great Lakes freighter was taken off ship with help from U.S. Coast Guard members stationed in Northern Michigan, officials said.
In a post to social media on Wednesday evening, the USCG said members at their Sault Ste. Marie station in the Upper Peninsula responded to a vessel on the Saint Marys River between the U.S. and Canadian border.
Personnel were dispatch to the freighter by helicopter and transported the crewmember, who authorities said was experiencing a medical emergency.
The ship worker was then taken to Canadian EMS waiting at the Canadian side of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal.
The condition of the crewmember is unknown at this time and no other information was released by authorities.
