GRASS LAKE TWP. (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police say an impaired driver was responsible for a serious freeway crash that injured three people Wednesday evening in Jackson County.

Troopers from the MSP Jackson Post responded to the scene just after 6:30 p.m., along westbound I-94 near mile marker 149 in Grass Lake, which is east of Jackson.

According to investigators, a 30-year-old driver from Osseo was headed west of I-94 and tried to merge into the right lane, hitting another car.

In that car were two people, ages 39 and 58, both from Jackson.

All three people were taken by ambulance to Henry Ford Allegiance hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police said the driver was treated, released and then booked in the Jackson County Jail on drunken driving charges.

The two others remained hospitalized on Thursday in serious condition.

No names were released as MSP said the crash remains under investigation.
