(WWJ) Clinton Township police have given the "all clear" after someone called the Macomb County Communications and Technology Center's 911 system and said explosive devices had been planted inside Wyandot Middle School.
Police officers were at the school on Garfield Road near 17 Mile just before 8 a.m. where they helped evacuate students and school workers with the help of the school resource officer and school administrators.
Students were taken to Chippewa Valley High School. Most students were picked up at the high school by their parents, but others were taken back to the middle school and released from there, according to district spokeswoman Diane Blain.
A comprehensive search of the school was carried out, resulting in no explosive devices or materials being found, police said shortly before noon.
A statement from the Chippewa Valley School District said the threat was called in using a phone number that was created earlier today and police are actively investigating and working to identify the caller so that appropriate law enforcement action can be taken.
"Unfortunately, false threats have been occurring in districts across our state and nationwide," the statement said. "While most of these threats are not credible, we must always err on the side of caution when it comes to student and staff safety. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we follow our established safety protocols to ensure everyone’s well-being."
Any student or family with information about the call is encouraged to contact Chippewa Valley school administration at (586) 723-2000 or Clinton Township police at (586)-469-5502.
