An Ann Arbor man, who may have downed a little too much Irish cheer on St. Patrick’s Day, is in jail today after hitting a Michigan State Police car.

A trooper said he had pulled over a car on eastbound M-14 near Barton Drive near Ann Arbor Wednesday night when the suspect smashed into the State Police car and took off the front wheel.

The 31-year old driver didn’t stop, but was caught a few minutes later. State Police say the man was drunk and admitted he knew he hit the police car, but decided not to stop -- He didn't say why.

He was arrested for drunk driving and put in jail. There were no injuries.
