ALPENA (WWJ) - A bus driver in Northern Michigan is being credited for avoiding serious injuries after another driver swerved into their lane and hit the side of the bus on Friday.
The Alpena County Sheriff's Office said deputies and state troopers responded to the crash reported during the morning commute around 6 a.m. on Feb. 10.
The incident happened along a stretch of M-65 N near Leer Road where road conditions were said to be poor, deputies added.
According to the investigation, a pickup truck driving south in the northbound lanes crossed the center line and struck the side of an oncoming school bus.
Deputies said the crash could have been severe, but the bus driver reacted quickly when they saw the pickup truck come into their lane. The bus driver swerved out of the way as much as possible, avoiding serious injuries by doing so.
It wasn't clear if the school bus had any children on board at the time of the collision, but there were no reports of injuries.
Deputies said the driver of the pickup truck was cited for crossing the center line.
