Ann Arbor earns spot among America's Top 10 Places to Live

The city fell two spots in the ranking, but rounds out the list's top spots determined by nightlife, housing, cost of living & more

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Tree Town has once again claimed a top spot as one of the best cities to live in the nation, according to new rankings released by Niche.com.

According to the website, Ann Arbor came in eighth place on the list, beating out other desirable locations across the U.S. such as Seattle, Wash., San Francisco, Calif. and Raleigh, N.C.

The Washtenaw County city was once crowed the top spot in 2018 and slid to No. 6 in 2022.

Niche, a Pittsburgh-based business, uses a variety of factors to determine its list including public schools, cost of living, housing, weather, jobs, crime rates, diversity and nightlife. When ranking cities, the company also complies data from the U.S. Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, FBI and CDC.

Niche also takes into account resident reviews.

Cambridge, Mass. took this year's title of No. 1 best city to live in America. Arlington, Virginia ranking No. 2 while The Woodlands, Texas took the third spot.

According to Niche's other ranking, Ann Arbor sits as the No. 2 city in the U.S. with the Best Public Schools, No. 7 among Best Cities to Raise a Family in America and No. 11 in Best Places to Live in Michigan.

Ann Arbor received top "grades" for public schools, commute, health and fitness, outdoor activities and diversity, coming in with an A- or higher.

The city also scored a B+ for jobs, a B- for housing while earning C marks for crime, safety, cost of living and weather. Regardless, Ann Arbor's overall grade came in as a A+, according to Niche.
