ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Authorities say a 61-year-old man is in police custody after the body of a 65-year-old woman was found in a senior apartment complex on Thursday.

Ann Arbor Police said the suspect, only identified as a 61-year-old man, was known to the victim, Patricia Falkenstern, and was her neighbor at the Courthouse Square Apartments in the 100 block of South Fourth Avenue where her body was discovered.

Authorities said they were conducting a welfare check on Falkenstern on Sept. 1 when they entered her apartment and found her deceased.

The details surrounding the case remain unclear, but police said the suspect told them he was responsible for Falkenstern's death.

Police added that it appears the victim died on Tuesday while the suspect was visiting her at her apartment.

The case remains under police investigation. The suspect is lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending charges.

The Ann Arbor police said they are looking for information about the suspect or the incident. Tipsters can reach Det. Jon McDonagh at 734-794-6930 ext. 49311 or email him at JMcDonagh@a2gov.org.
