NORTHVILLE (WWJ) -- A major setback for outdoor dining in downtown Northville
After a July ruling opened the streets of downtown to traffic just a few years after they were blocked off for outdoor dining and a social district during the pandemic; the group "Let's Open Northville" wanted more.
A judge ruling in favor of a motion filed by the group in July that parallel parking spots downtown can't be blocked off for outdoor dining either.
Northville's Downtown Development Authority says restaurants have been in support of the on-street dining. The city's position was supported by the Michigan Downtown Association, which argued that cities throughout Michigan have ordinances that allow on-street dining and have done so for years.
The city now has to clear those parking spots by Saturday.
