SOUTHGATE (WWJ) - Downriver police are working to find out who placed packets with anti-Semitic flyers around homes in Southgate after they were discovered in plastic bags over the weekend.
Police said the packets containing the offensive material were found outside homes in Southgate spanning two blocks and are believed to have been distributed sometime Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
The plastic bags they came in were weighed down with corn, which authorities think was done to prevent the flyers from being blown away in the wind.
Exactly what the flyers said was not released by police, but residents told WDIV that they were insulted that whoever left them behind possibly thought the area might be influenced by the pamphlets.
Southgate police said the flyers did not contain any direct threats, but they are still searching for those responsible for distributing them.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
