(WWJ) – The development of artificial intelligence is nothing new. But the launch of a program called Chat GPT last November changed everything. As the program took the world by storm, it proved the future of AI is now.

On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark wonders if AI technology is something to get excited about or something to fear. Or could it be both?

On this edition of the podcast, he sat down and asked Chat GPT a few questions to find out just how powerful it – and other similar AI programs – can be.

Launched by a developer by the name of Open AI, GPT stands for generative pre-trained transformer. In short, it takes readily available information from the internet and uses it to answer complex questions, write papers or emails, or even something as complex as writing a computer program.

The premise of the program is certainly fascinating, and the mind starts to wonder – what is possible with AI technology? Clark turns to some local experts to find out more about Chat GPT -- including why it's become so popular.

Dr. Marouane Kessentini, the chair of the Oakland University Computer Science and Engineering Department, describes it as “either a dangerous medicine with amazing side effects or an amazing medicine with dangerous side effects.”
