'Armed and dangerous' suspect wanted for Saginaw murder in police custody after sparking overnight manhunt

SAGINAW (WWJ) - A 19-year-old suspect in a Saginaw murder case was taken into custody on Saturday after triggering a manhunt, Michigan State Police confirmed.

Antonio Dakarai Braylock, 19, was apprehended on Saturday, Jan. 6th, days after he allegedly shot and killed 62-year-old Willie Barnes at a home on Harold Street in Saginaw early Thursday (Jan. 4) morning.

MSP's Third District posted an alert to social media that they were searching for Braylock, who had been charged murder and felony firearm charges in connection to the case.

State police considered the 19-year-old "armed and dangerous" and asked for the public's help in locating him on Friday evening.

Braylock was described as Black man standing 5' 3" tall with black hair and brown eyes.

While troopers said they believed Braylock was in the Saginaw area, he also had connections to Cincinnati, Ohio.

An update just after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday said Braylock was in custody, but it is unclear where he was located.

The case is Saginaw's third homicide in four days to start the new year, MSP said.

On New Year's Day, police responded two fatal shootings within hours of each other, with the first incident occurring at the Natural Zone Sports Bar on Michigan Ave. on the city's west side and the second outside a home off Thatcher Street.

Police haven't made an arrest in either case, Mlive reported.

So far this year, homicides within Saginaw city limits racked up alarmingly quick when compared to 2023, when the city didn't record three murder until March.

Saginaw had a total of 15 homicide cases in all of 2023, Mlive stated.
