DEARBORN (WWJ) - An armed carjacking suspect who allegedly attempted to steal vehicles in a Dearborn neighborhood overnight was nabbed by police after a rideshare driver tipped them off.

WWJ's Mike Campbell reported live from the scene on Thursday morning where investigators from the Dearborn Police Department and Michigan State Police were seen still collecting evidence on Edison Street off of Monroe, in between Oakwood Blvd. and Outer Drive in Dearborn just after 6 a.m.

"It's a compact little neighborhood that is mostly dark, I believe everybody is still asleep, so not even sure they know what was happening in their neighborhood this morning," Campbell said.

The suspect allegedly tried to steal at least one vehicle in the area, possibly two, Campbell reported. The man reportedly had a gun and fired shots, which caught the attention of local law enforcement.

"Police got wind of it and were tracking him in the neighborhood," Campbell said. "Then an Uber or Lyft driver called Dearborn police to say he's supposed to pick this guy up at Monroe and Outer Drive."

Officers intercepted the man and arrested him, Campbell reported.

Detectives are still investigating the incident with exact details yet to be confirmed by police.

"Now they're just picking up evidence and dotting the I's and crossing the T's on their investigation here," he said. "We'll see where it leads."

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
