DETROIT (WWJ) -- A woman has surrendered following a standoff with police that lasted several hours this morning in southwest Detroit.
Officials evacuated the apartment building on Pitt Street near the Springwells neighborhood, where the woman had barricaded herself inside.
The situation started around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, when the suspect got into an argument with her girlfriend.
Police set up a perimeter around the building, while the woman was lighting items on fire and throwing them off the balcony, and threatening a suicide-by-cop situation. There were no reports of shots being fired.
After talking with the Detroit Police Department's hostage negotiation team for several hours, the suspect later surrendered without further incident and is now in custody.
